# Parental / Kids Rules
Climbing is one of the best things a kid can do — it builds strength, focus, and confidence. We welcome young climbers, and these rules keep them safe. This is a starting draft; edit it at `/admin/legal/kids-rules` to match your final policy.
Who counts as a minor
Anyone under 18 is a minor and must be covered by these rules. "Guardian" means a parent or another responsible adult (18+) the parent has authorised.
A guardian must sign the waiver
A minor may not climb until a parent or legal guardian has signed the Good Climbs waiver on the minor's behalf. The guardian accepts the same risks the waiver describes. We may ask for ID.
Supervision by age
- Under 7: must be within arm's reach of a guardian at all times on the mats and walls.
- 7–12: must have a guardian present in the gym and actively watching. One guardian may
supervise up to two children in this range.
- 13–15: may climb without a guardian on the floor only after a staff orientation, but a guardian
must have signed the waiver and remain reachable by phone.
- 16–17: may climb independently once the guardian waiver is on file.
These minimums can be raised at staff discretion on a busy day.
On the wall
- Kids follow the same House Rules as everyone else — no climbing under or over another
person, no walking under a climber, down-climb or controlled fall onto the mats.
- Bouldering only unless a certified coach or guardian is belaying; no child belays another child.
- No running, rough-housing, or climbing on the padding structures, top-outs, or railings.
- Shoes: rentals start at our smallest sizes; barefoot and socks-only climbing isn't allowed on the
walls.
Coaching & kids' sessions
Guided kids' sessions and birthday bookings run with a certified coach. Book a session or ask the front desk for group rates.
Café & common areas
Children stay with their guardian outside the climbing zone. Good Shit Coffee is happy to do a hot chocolate.
Staff can pause a climb
For safety, our staff may ask a child to take a break, step off a problem, or be supervised more closely. Please support them — it's about keeping every kid (and the climbers around them) safe.
